In the Community

The mission statement of our church calls us to provide “caring community, learning, and service to God, one another, and the world.” Members and friends of Mountain Rise directly participate in a number of community projects and organizations.

Pride Parade

The Rochester Pride Parade is held on a Saturday in July when participants and their allies celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and show support for the rights of people in that community. The Mountain Rise UCC Open & Affirming Group is a sponsor of the parade and sends volunteers to walk in the parade to honor friends and family members who are part of the LGBTQ+ family.

Climate March

The annual Climate March is held in September in downtown Rochester to show support for initiatives at the local and state levels of government. Volunteers from the Mountain Rise UCC Green Team invite congregation members and friends to participate in this march and learn from climate action speakers.

Advent House

Advent House is a hospice care facility in Fairport, NY that serves two individuals at a time who are nearing end of life. Volunteers provide basic household tasks, companionship, and comfort care with dignity and compassion.

Learning Links

Learning Links is a tutoring program for school-aged children and youth that is located in the community room at Evergreen East, a housing complex in Fairport, NY. Volunteer tutors are matched with students for a weekly meeting or tutors may work with adults in the ESOL program.

Salem UCC Nutrition Center

The Salem Clothing Team collaborates with members of Salem UCC to provide free clothing to people in need at this inner city church’s soup kitchen. Mountain Rise volunteers collect and organize quality second-hand clothing throughout each month in its “In and Out Room” in preparation for transport and then assist guests at the soup kitchen as they choose articles of clothing they need.

Isaiah House

Isaiah House is a two-bed hospice care home in Rochester, NY which serves people who lack financial resources. Mountain Rise UCC volunteers are helping to maintain the house by doing light repairs.

Habitat for Humanity

Mountain Rise UCC works in collaboration with Perinton Congregations for Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity to financially support and build a new house in Rochester, NY every 3 years. Volunteers sign up online to work on the house being built and may do drywalling, interior painting, or many other tasks required to build a house.
